Training Recap June 19-25

Posting this a day late this week, because I had way too much fun this weekend at Hornby Island. If you live on the west coast and have not been, I highly recommend it for a weekend trip. It is insanely beautiful and there are great options for trail running. The week leading up to that, I was in Vancouver for my runs.

The week went like this:

Monday: 60′ easy with East Van Run Crew, we started and ended at Parallel 49 brewing and headed out to New Brighton Park. I also did the NTC core crunch workout.

Tuesday: OFF, since Monday is typically off, but I couldn’t pass up the EVRC run.

Wednesday: WO was, 20′ easy, 3 x 90” tempo, then 2 sets of 4 x 2 mins at 5km pace, 20′ easy. I ran to Empire Field for my warm-up and then did the intervals on the track. Once I got home I did the NTC core strength workout.

Thursday: 70′ easy, I woke up at 5am to get this in and I was happy I did. The city is magical first thing in the morning. I also did the NTC core strength workout.

Friday: OFF, I did the NTC abs and arms workout.

Saturday: Normally a group WO day, but we ran in the trails at Helliwell Park instead and the views were certainly memorable. I also did the NTC core crunch workout.

Sunday: OFF, I guess coach anticipated the post-wedding hangover 😝.

Total Weekly Mileage: 49.7km

Time to ramp it up this week, and put some more mileage on these legs! Hoping that’ll help get me back on track because right now I feel like I just came back from a 3 week vacation and I’m like what is this!? Though my actual summer vacation starts in just over a week and a half and I couldn’t be more excited.

Training Recap June 12-18

This week’s runs were all in Vancouver! The weather has gone back to thinking it is winter or spring, but nevertheless I am still happy for the week I had.

Monday: East Van Run Crew @ Luppolo Brewery. This was a good easy run to start the week. Typically I have Monday off, but I switched it for Tuesday so I could join in. I also did an NTC core workout.

Tuesday: OFF. My dad arrived in Vancouver for a visit and we caught up over a beer.

Wednesday: WO, headed out to New Brighton Park and did some speed work there. 20′ warm-up, 2 sets of 4 x 90′ tempo, 20′ cool-down. I also did an NTC core workout.

Thursday: OFF. I did the NTC core crunch workout.

Friday: 30′ easy, headed out along Victoria drive and ended up on the grand view woodland bike path.

Saturday: WO, normally done bright and early, but since I wasn’t running with the group and my dad was visiting, we went for brunch instead and did then WO in the afternoon. Decided to take advantage of the proximity to Empire Field and run over there for the warm-up and, the WO was 2 sets of 6’@4:50, 2’@4:35. Admittedly, I got a bit excited to be on the track and went a bit faster, but that’s alright.

Sunday: 90′ easy, Father’s Day run/bike. It was raining and grey, but it had to be done. We headed out early taking the Adanac bike route to False Creek and a bit of the Seawall. We finished it off with brunch at La Mezcalaria. I also did an NTC core workout.

Total Weekly Mileage: 50.2 km

I am working and running in Vancouver until Thursday night when I head back to the island briefly before leaving to Hornby Island for the weekend! I have never been and I cannot wait.

Training Recap June 5-11

I swear there are no bad angles in Vancouver, I am always taken aback by the beauty this city has to offer. Most of my runs were in Vancouver this week and I was very happy to have a change of scenery. After 2 nights on the island, I am back in Vancouver for at least 2 more weeks, so I have many more runs ahead of me here and I am super okay with it.

This is what I did last week:

Monday: OFF

Tuesday: 55′ easy, I got to run with Tay, who I met from Sport Chek Running Club last summer, we headed out to the English Bay inukshuk.  I also did the NTC core strength workout.

Wednesday: 45′ easy, I ran out to sunset beach solo. I also did the NTC core strength workout.

Thursday: Solo workout, 20′ easy, 3 x 8′ @tempo (instructed not to look at watch), 20′ easy. It felt good, especially to enjoy a workout without wondering what paces I’m hitting, running based on effort is nice. I also did a 10 minute core for runners workout, it was tough but good.

Friday: OFF.

Saturday: Group workout with the Island Striders: 20′ easy, 3 x 1 mile with a jog back to the mile start between each, 20′ easy.

Sunday: 70′ easy, headed out to good ole lochside trail. I also did the NTC abs and arms workout.

Total Weekly Mileage: 53.9km

This week will bring more running adventures in Vancouver and hopefully a fun trail run.

Training Recap May 29-June 4

This week I started to feel like I was getting my groove back. The 2 workouts I had didn’t feel horrible, they actually felt quite good! Quite the contrast to last week when I felt like I was on my deathbed the whole time. I will continue to enjoy this period of lower mileage and only 5 days a week of running because pretty soon, it’ll be back to the strict schedule of marathon training. I think I have another month before training technically starts, but I am also training for a half in August so that will be coming up quick.

Here’s how my week went:

Monday: OFF. I did the NTC basic burner workout.

Tuesday: 45′ minutes easy, I ran home from work and I also did the NTC core strength workout.

Wednesday: Group workout, we switched up the scenery and went to Elk/Beaver lake. The workout was 20′ easy, 5-4-3-2-1, 20′ easy. It felt good to get a bit of speed back into my legs, though I was a teenie bit sore the following day.

Thursday: 50′ easy, this was a commute run, I also did the NTC ab burner 2.0 workout.

Friday: OFF.

Saturday: Group workout, we did 20′ easy and then 3 x 1 mile repeats (7:30, 8:00, 7:20), 20′ easy. I was very happy with how this workout went compared to the previous week, where we had breaks part of the way through some of the repeats and still felt horrible. Progress! I also did 2 NTC workouts: abs and arms + core crunch 2.0

Sunday: 80′ easy, I biked over to a friends house and we went out on a trail tour, it was awesome and beautiful. I also did the NTC ab burner 2.0 workout.

Total Weekly Mileage: 51.5km

I am going to Vancouver for the week on business and excited to be running my old routes! Seawall, here I come!
